Pawnbroking continues to flourish on the high street

Albemarle Bond has opened its 100th store in Hounslow.

The high street pawnbroker brought in an award-winning magician alongside Albemarle Bond founder, Phil Murphy to commemorate the event in Greater London.

CEO of Albemarle & Bond Holdings PLC Barry Stevenson says: “Reaching 100 Albemarle Bond stores is an important milestone for the business and represents a significant point on the strategic roadmap we have set out.

“Pawnbroking has always been a popular way of accessing short-term cash when you need it. Today the industry is going through resurgence as the banks have tightened their lending criteria and customers look to more attractive routes to taking their finances into their own hands.

“However, with just one per cent of the UK population regularly using the services of a pawnbroker, the market is still underserved and our vision is to make sure all our prospective customers have access to our services, be it through the existing Albemarle Bond and Herbert Brown fascias, our gold buying stores or online transactions.”

The 100th store opening now brings the total Albemarle & Bond Holdings PLC retail estate to more than 140 Albemarle Bond and Herbert Brown stores and 29 gold buying sites.
