Alibaba.com launches platform for SMEs

The new platform was launched as a test site in September but the finished website officially launched yesterday.

Site offers smaller-quantity orders, Escrow and PayPal payments.

Global wholesale website Alibaba.com has launched a platform dedicated to small businesses called AliExpress.

AliExpress is tailored to small businesses and allows smaller-quantity orders, instant online transactions through PayPal and an Escrow service to protect buyers and sellers.

The new platform was launched as a test site in September but the finished website officially launched yesterday.

Alibaba.com chief executive David Wei said: “AliExpress is designed to help even the smallest businesses to be more competitive because they can offer customers more unique products, at better prices through the benefits to global trade.

“Our work with companies such as PayPal is crucial, because we want to make sure we are meeting the needs of our customers by making payment as fast, safe and easy as possible.”

AliExpress contains a wide selection of watches, fine jewellery, fashion jewellery and loose beads.
