Designer and PJ team collaborate on January issue of magazine.

Professional Jeweller is delighted to announce that Annoushka Ducas will be guest editor for the January 2014 issue, putting her bejewelled mark on our first issue of the new year.

Ducas is known for her imaginative and detailed fine jewellery designs, created under her own brand Annoushka, boasting two standalone stores in London, a presence in Harrods find jewellery room, and leading luxury department stores Selfridges, Liberty, Harrods and Harvey Nichols.

Her knowledge of the jewellery industry, jewellery retail, design and trends will steer the January issue, focusing on issues close to Ducas’ heart such as winning success in the industry with no formal training, supporting designers around the world and how universities are preparing students for life working in the jewellery business.

Ducas said: "I was thrilled to be asked to guest edit the January issue. What a wonderful opportunity, as I also enjoy a challenge.

"I started in the jewellery business with no formal design training and I have often wondered whether my career would have been very different it I had gone to design school, taken an apprenticeship or entered the industry by a more conventional path. I learnt as I went along, progressing from the design of silver cufflinks and now fine jewellery. In this issue I want to look at others who have come in from the outside and are making an impact on our industry."

Ducas said she hopes to share the stories of just some of the fascinating people she has met in the UK jewellery industry, with a must-read industry interview lined up and important retail advice from leading names.

The Professional Jeweller editorial team selects a different guest editor for each January issue, with past editors including leading British jeweller Shaun Leane, retailers Grant Mitchell and Kyron Keogh of Rox and last year industry champion Jason Holt, who took an in-depth look at British manufacturing and the support offered to young people in the jewellery industry.

Professional Jeweller editor Kathryn Bishop said: "After three years of excellent guest editor issues that have packed a punch with thought-provoking topics, we have yet another industry luminary to continue this run of standout collaborations. Annoushka Ducas was our first choice, so I am thrilled to be working with her on the January issue.

"Together with her husband John Ayton, Annoushka Ducas bought Links of London to the world. Today she flies to flag for imaginative fine jewellery with fans all over the globe. Her kind personality and working ethics continue to inspire many designers, and I am sure that the topics raised in her guest editor issue will spark many exciting discussions."

Akin to previous years, Professional Jeweller invites the jewellery industry to pitch its questions to Ducas for a Q&A, the answers of which will be published in the January issue. If you would like to submit a question you can comment below or email your question to info@professionaljeweller.com.
