Argos to revamp jewellery departments

Jewellery counters to get new look in £70m refurbishment.

Argos is planning a revamp of its jewellery departments to reflect the retail chain’s new branding.

About 130 stores will be refurbished in the next financial year and 500 stores, equating to two thirds of the chain, will be updated within three years.

The jewellery department update is part of a wider £70 million refurbishment plan. The group will spend about £100,000 on each store and will introduce fresh branding, product displays, new catalogue browsers, stock checker units, kiosks and call forward technology.

Argos’ parent company Home Retail Group announced the refurbishment plans in its full-year results. The group reported pre-tax profit was down 11 percent to £293 million and announced a share buy-back of £150 million.
