FedEx has suspended all deliveries to the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter following a series of raids on van drivers.

The courier company claims that its drivers have been attacked on several occasions and in one case a driver was tied up while thieves stole his van.

However, West Midlands police are claiming that apart from a single incident in the Small Heath area of the city there have been no such problems reported in the area this year. The British Jewellers’ Association also described the problem as “off and on”.

The Birmingham Assay Office said that some of its services have been affected by the FedEx suspension with parcels having to be redirected.
