CHANEL J12 CHROMATIC: The Chanel J12 has been around in many guises for a while ? whether in its basic black-and-white format, full dazzling pave form or, as was the case last year, refashioned as a blue-dial divers watch. But whereas they have all been subtle updates, this years model, the J12 Chromatic, is a bolder statement. Chanel has seriously upped its game with this latest launch, creating a brand-new fabric ? ceramic titanium. It looks like steel, which is a good thing, as I have always felt that this robust design could lend itself to a less fashiony interpretation. For although it was designed to be a watch for men and women, in my opinion, it always looked slightly out of place on a mans wrist. Not so with this moody, silvery incarnation, which has a kind of Chanel-does-vintage-Rolex feel to it. It hits just the right style spot and, as the brand needed to come up with a novel way of keeping myriad imitators at bay, it further cements Chanels premier position in the high-fashion high-watch arena. Available in simple, complicated and haute joallerie guises, it is destined to spark a new generation of J12 fans.
