EDITORS CHOICE... VAN CLEEF AND ARPELS: No one takes a fantastic idea and runs with it quite in the manner of Van Cleef and Arpels. While many are familiar with the brands jewellery pieces, once famously worn by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy, the jewellery brand has equal credibility for its watches, creating distinct designs such as the Cadenas that are still in production today. Van Cleef and Arpels loves to present themed collections and their annual presentation is a highlight of the watch fair calendar. For 2011, the company pays homage to Jules Verne, the father of science fiction, with Les Voyages Extraodinaires, a series of sublime enamelled and diamond timepieces inspired by scenes from his novels: Five Weeks in a Balloon, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, A Journey to the Centre of the Earth and From the Earth to the Moon. The flagship model is the first named, with animated balloon, anchor and bird in flight indicating the time.
