Handmade Jewellery Company replaces bust Jacobs Jewellery Design.
Barry Jacobs has set up a new company called Handmade Jewellery Company after his previous business Jacobs Jewellery Design went into liquidation.
Handmade Jewellery Company will offer the exact same product and service as Jacobs Jewellery Design and the business will be based at Hatton Garden in the same office with all the same contact details as the previous business.
Speaking to Professional Jeweller, Jacobs explained that Jacobs Jewellery Design fell into liquidation because of a problem with debtors. He said: “We were caught in the middle with debtors owing us a lot of money and creditors who couldn’t wait.”
Jacobs said that some of the creditors caught up in the liquidation of Jacobs Jewellery are continuing to work with Handmade Jewellery Company, and added that he is working closely with them to iron out financial problems created in the fallout. “Some of them were insured and some of them we are working things out with,” he said.
Despite the negative connotations of his business plunging into liquidation, Jacobs is upbeat about future prospects for Handmade Jewellery Company. He said: “We will be making the same stuff, doing the same thing but it will be better than ever. We will continue to concentrate on very fine bespoke jewellery and offer a fantastic service. The Jacobs legacy is still going strong.”
Jacobs’ family has been working in Hatton Garden since 1946 when his grandfather set up a sweet stall. His father also worked at the stall but went on to complete an apprenticeship as a diamond mounter and moved into the jewellery trade. Jacobs followed suit and qualified as a diamond grader in 1996. Jacobs worked with his father for some years before founding Jacobs Jewellery Design when his father retired.
