Beaverbrooks cuts spending as profits slide

Pre-tax profits fall from ?4.6m to ?200,000

Beaverbrooks has cut back on spending after its pre-tax profits fell from £4.6m to £200,000 last year. Turnover at the retailer stayed level in the year to March 2009 at £82m.

The store chain has allowed staff levels to fall 5% by natural wastage as it prepares for a tough year ahead.

Beaverbrooks opened its 66th store in Cardif in October at the St David’s 2 shopping centre.
