Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter is gearing up for Rio by making plans to bring the community together for ‘Open Air Olympics’.
This week, the Jewellery Quarter will be bringing a slice of Rio to the Golden Square with a screening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Opening Ceremony.
The opening ceremony gets under way at 11:15pm (GMT) on Friday August 5 and is set to be as lively and colourful as Brazil is famed for.
The Jewellery Quarter BID (Business Improvement District) has worked with Elonex to place a large screen on the Golden Square, so that sporting fans, residents of the Jewellery Quarter and beyond can come and enjoy the spectacle.
In the run up to the opening ceremony there will also be a select number of films screened from 1:30pm including the aptly named Rio and fan favourite Cool Runnings.
The BID is encouraging locals to head on down to the square with a picnic and enjoy the free line-up of films before the main event.
The screen will continue to show a variety of Olympics events throughout the weekend between 12:30-18:00.
