BJA membership hits new heights with record month

Members exceed 1,100 for first time with 50 sign ups in September.

British Jewellers’ Association (BJA) membership levels have hit a new zenith with the group reporting that it now has more than 1,100 members.

The BJA said that not only is this the highest membership figure in the association’s history, the past month has delivered a record uplift in membership with more than 50 new members signing up in September.

It added that it signed up a record number of new members at last month’s trade show IJL and that the momentum continued in the weeks following the exhibition.

New members include a major international jewellery brand, a prominent multiple retailer, manufacturers, designers and independent retailers, said the BJA.

BJA chief executive Simon Rainer said: "I was very pleasantly surprised by the record membership intake during July, but the September results have completely taken us all by surprise.

“The new membership gains are a true testament to the work we have undertaken with our members to encourage business growth and greater exposure to new markets.”

New initiatives played out at the BJA over the past few months have included a new seminar formula titled Growing Your Business, a forging of stronger ties with the UKTI, the launch of its Designer Showcase website and the continued development of its mentoring programme.
