App allows users to buy diamonds from online pool of 70,000 stones.
Online diamond jewellery retailer Blue Nile has created an app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
The app will allow customers to search for and buy diamonds and view recently created Blue Nile one-off jewellery pieces.
Blue Nile chief executive Diane Irvine said: “We feel the Blue Nile App will be a game-changer in the way consumers shop for diamonds and will be a disruptive force in the diamond industry moving forward. We’ve listened to our customers, and feel we’ve developed a diamond shopping experience for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch that combines the best education with the best selection of diamonds."
Users will be able to search through a database of 70,000 diamonds, refining their search by table and depth percentages, length-to-width ratio, polish and symmetry, girdle, culet, fluorescence, and price per carat. Once a user has found a diamond they can then buy directly through the app or contact a Blue Nile salesperson for more information.
The retailer has also created a function within the app called Dream Box. This allows users to browse through thousands of recent bespoke jewellery created by Blue Nile. Although users cannot buy pieces, they can use the feature to get inspiration and can also share favourite designs through social networking site Facebook.

It should be simple and convenient, and deliver the highest quality diamonds coupled with spectacular value. We designed the Blue Nile App to deliver such an experience."
