Large number of sign-ups for web legitimacy check service.
At the Goldsmiths’ Company’s Assay Office in London a free service is offered to its customers to help them provide online assurance to consumers.
The Assay Office has been working with national directory Brand-i for some time now “to help consumers find genuine online stockists of key brands”.
Brand-i works by allowing consumers to check whether a website is legitimate before they make a purchase while also allowing them to report websites they believe to be fake.
“We encourage our customers to sign up for this free service which aims to prove the items you are selling online have been tested and hallmarked by us,” says Karen Etherington, a marketing consultant for the Goldsmiths’ Company.
Legitimate website details are provided by the brand itself and the public are directed straight to any official websites via a secure link.
According to the Assay Office London the service is “already proving very popular” and a large number of its customers have already signed up.
