Peter Jackson urges local authorities to revitalise town centre as he closes Southport doors

This summer award-winning jewellery retailer Peter Jackson the Jewellers will close the doors to its Southport store after 20 years on Lord Street.

Managing director, Peter Jackson, says running a profitable retail business on Lord Street has become more and more difficult over the last few years.

Staff from the Southport store will be offered jobs in one of the retailer’s other boutiques in Preston, Blackburn, Bury and Carlisle – all of which have been trading well and enjoyed a healthy turnover so far this year.

Jackson comments: “I shall be very sorry to leave Southport and I hope that the local authority will realise that an urgent effort to revitalise the town centre and particularly Lord Street is needed.

“I am very grateful to the people of Southport for their custom and support over the years and I hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming many of our loyal customers to our beautiful store in St Georges Centre, Preston.”

While a final closing date has yet to be confirmed, the store has kick-started closing down sale with the premise expected to be shut by the end of the summer. Once shut, all repairs and orders will be transferred to the Preston boutique.
