Diamond-clad doll achieves lower end of estimates at £191,500.
The Barbie created by luxury jeweller Canturi has sold at auction for a record US$302,500 (£191,500) at Christie’s in New York.
The amount paid for the Barbie, which was sold with a 4ct diamond choker, was at the lower end of pre-auction estimates set by Christie’s but is still the most expensive Barbie ever sold.
The sale trumped the previous world record for a Barbie. Before the Canturi doll was sold the most expensive Barbie was sold for £10,765 in 1965.
The proceeds from the sale will be donated to Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
