Lucerne watch maker realises dream of building its own movements.
Carl F. Bucherer is presenting a new family of watches built around movements created using the EvoTec process; a process made possible with the foundation of the company’s own manufacturing facility.
The first EvoTec movements and watches emerged last year, but the portfolio has been extended this year with several new time pieces.
Since the completion of a repositioning exercise in 2001, Carl F. Bucherer has focused on style and usability demanding design and hard to use complications.
“It is not our mission to create the most complex watch on earth or to build highly demanding mechanisms that will ultimately not work. Our very exciting technical innovations offer the wearer maximum precision and reliability,” declared Thomas Morf, CEO of Carl F. Bucherer, at the time.
Staying true to that philosophy is the CFB A1000 Manufacture movement. The automatic calibre combines the aesthetics of a hand wound movement with the practicality of automatic winding.
The characteristic feature of the CFB A1000 is the peripherally mounted and bidirectional winding oscillating weight, which supplies the gear with power. This mounting is described by the company as a demanding and challenging creation that could not be satisfactorily created before now.
In contrast to the central rotor normally used, which covers half the watch movement, the peripherally mounted oscillating weight allows an open view of the accurately ticking microcosm and thus combines the aesthetic value of a hand-wound movement with the comfort of automatic winding.
The movement is used in the new Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve that features a new type of power reserve indication. A small red hand sits on the rack that is powered by a differential mechanism that traces a gentle curve beneath an opening in the dial between 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock.
Also on the dial are the trademark Carl F. Bucherer big date, a day of the week display and small seconds.
The 32mm case is made of stainless steel with a rubber bezel, rubber screw down crown. The glass on front and back is sapphire crystal.
Also new this year is the Patravi EvoTec BigDate, Carl F. Bucherer’s first ladies’ watch based on the EvoTec Manufacture Concept.
The watch uses the CFB A1003 automatic movement housed in a 32mm stainless steel case with 1.1 carats of VVS diamonds.
The watch is offered with both black and white dials.
