Retailer to host precious metal exhibit with jewels by Fei Liu.
Cambridge’s Catherine Jones is set to host an exhibition of platinum jewellery and couture dresses later this month, having been loaned the designs by the Platinum Guild International.
The retailer will co-host the event showcasing two remarkable platinum-woven dresses, a wedding dress and a cocktail dress, designs that won Lonmin’s Design Innovation Award, alongside fine jewellery.
The dresses are being flown in from Italy where the technique of turning platinum into a thread for weaving was developed and where the dresses were designed.
Vanessa Burkitt, managing director of Catherine Jones said: ‘The work being loaned to us by Platinum Guild International is of world-quality and design.
“It is a privilege to be able to show these extraordinary pieces at such an exclusive and prestigious event.”
The exhibit will be shown at a VIP event co-hosted by luxury car retailer Marshalls Jaguar in the university city.
Jewellery by current and past winners of Lonmin’s Design Innovation Awards will be on show, including platinum jewellery by Sarah Jordan, Fei Liu and James Newman.
The work of Andrew Geoghegan, Vincent van Hees from Holland and Ursula Scholz and Niessing from Germany will also be on display to try and purchase.
Burkitt added: “This will be a sumptuous collection and each designer has an individual, distinctive inspiration and design signature.”
