The site has also been designed to allow attendees to learn more about about Porto – the host city – before their stay, alongside details about the congress venue and agenda. This year’s CIBJO congress will take place in the historical Freixo Palace Hotel, on the banks of the Douro River. It is being hosted by Associação de Ourivesaria e Relojoaria de Portugal – the Portuguese Jewellery and Watchmaking Association (AORP).

The CIBJO congress, which is held annually, serves as the primary gathering place for the World Jewellery Confederation, whose members comprise of national jewellery associations from more than 40 countries, and leading international organisations, corporations in the jewellery and gemstone sectors.

The congresses serve as an official forum for CIBJO’s various sectoral commissions, and are the venue at which amendments can be introduced to international industry standards for diamonds, coloured stone, pearl, gem labs and precious metals.

CIBJO is described as the international jewellery confederation of national trade organizations. Its purpose is to encourage harmonization, promote international cooperation in the jewellery industry and to consider issues which concern the trade worldwide. CIBJO’s chief mission is "to protect consumer confidence in the industry."
