The Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ) is set to launch a free HR helpline service on September 1, offering its retail members exclusive access to practical advice and support.
The HR Partnership in association with the CMJ will provide a telephone support line manned by two experienced and fully qualified HR professionals who both have considerable experience of working with small to medium sized businesses.
The helpline will provide friendly, constructive and confidential advice and follow-up assistance, with the option of a retainer support package for businesses that require a more regular point of contact.
Lucy Reece-Raybould, CMJ executive director of business development and marketing, comments: “We wanted to offer retailers the opportunity to talk to an expert about their HR challenges in an open way – as and when any questions arise. This additional service for our members, who continue to have access to a range of benefits without losing any of their independence, will be particularly valued by smaller businesses who may not otherwise be able to afford it. At this year’s Regional Meetings, members had lots of questions for our HR business partners, which opened up plenty of discussions, so that confirmed to us that it’s a service that would be valued.”
As well as being available to business owners, the service is also aimed at store managers who may encounter challenges or have questions about day-to-day procedures and best practice on the shopfloor.
Les Basham, director of G Tydeman Jewellers in Stowmarket, has already used the service for advice on staff contract renewals and is enthusiastic about the value it will bring to retailers. “The service is very helpful and hassle-free and clarifies all the HR technicalities that can often be a bit of a mystery,” says Basham. “It is important to seek professional help to make sure you follow the correct procedures, and I would definitely recommend the service to other members for all their HR needs.”
