CW Sellors given green light to build Jewellery Design Centre of Excellence

CW Sellors Fine Jewellery has been given the green light to build a Jewellery Design Centre of Excellence in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside.

The aim of the initiative, which has been in the planning process for six years, is to create a visitor attraction that will promote Derbyshire as a leading centre for jewellery design and manufacturing for the whole of the UK.

The centre will overlook Carsington Water in the Peak District (pictured above), which lies only a few miles from the current headquarters of CW Sellors.

“We are delighted at the decision of the planning committee. The foresight of the members has given us a very unique opportunity to develop a visitor attraction and educational centre that is not just the envy of the UK, but admired by visitors worldwide and now we must deliver,” said CW Sellors managing director Chris Sellors.

“With Carsington as our base, it gives us the best chance of a sustainable business which will be multi-faceted in its offering. We have been established for over 35 years and with this exciting new chapter ahead of us, we look forward to increasing our apprenticeships, training and designs facilities, whilst offering workshop visits, exclusive exhibitions of British and worldwide gemstones and an enjoyable retail environment – all in a unique and inspirational setting,” he added.

The Jewellery Design Centre of Excellence will be more than just a tourist destination for visitors to the Peak District. It will also provide important services to the industry such as training and workshops in gemology, jewellery design and manufacturing.

It is expected to create 21 new and skilled jobs for the area, cementing C W Sellors’ credentials as the UK’s leading manufacturer of British gemstones and design.
