Jeweller plans return to Scottish roots after managing London store.
Jewellery designer Sarah Hutchison has announced plans to open her own jewellery gallery in Edinburgh next month, in a plan to take her career to the next level.
Hutchison has spent the last 18 months working as manager of contemporary jewellery gallery Platform in London’s Hatton Garden. The experience gained at Platform spurred her into the decision to return to Einburgh, in search of the perfect location for her own gallery.
The new concept – SH Jewellery – will open on May 7 in the affluent area of Morningside. The gallery, which will be located at 98 Morningside Road, has a very distinctive exterior with tall glass windows. The interior is set to be transformed into a welcoming environment, where Hutchison also plans to make her own jewellery designs in view of visitors to the shop.
SH Jewellery will stock Hutchison’s own work, alongside 20 other designers’ work which will rotate every couple of months to keep the store and jewellery fresh and exciting. The store will launch with contemporary silver jewellery by designers such as Hannah Bedford, Christine Kaltoft and Rachel Galley. There will be more trend-driven jewellery by designers including Tina Lilienthal.
This will be the only gallery of its kind in Edinburgh, with exclusive designer jewellery on sale for the first time in a gallery setting in the city. Not only will the gallery stock jewellery but there will also be a selection of paintings and prints by other jewellers and the silverware by Rebecca Jocelyn.
Having graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2004, Hutchison has since won several prizes for her jewellery designs, as well as exhitibing her work internationally. She has also been involved in projects with Scottis singer and ex-Texas frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri.
