Rachel Entwistle and Kamilla Thorsen to open Thor & Wistle store.
Jewellery designers Rachel Entwistle and Kamilla Thorsen have teamed up to open their own concept jewellery store in London’s Shoreditch, with the retail space due to open this Wednesday during Jewellery Week.
Entwistle, who creates quirky jewellery inspired by plant life, insects and animals and Thorsen, who works under the brand name Dynasty, have created the new store as an “homage to natural history, entomology, curiosities and mythology”.
The store is located in the trendsetting Shoreditch area of London, close to Mawi’s store on Calvert Avenue and the boutiques of Redchurch Street and Brick Lane.
The new retail space is said to have been a “labour of love” for the two designers, and has been designed with up-cycling in mind, utilising recycled or salvaged materials and antiques to create unusual displays.
Entwistle said: "Kamilla and I shared a studio together for two years [and] rented the pop-up shop at Number 94 Columbia Road for the Autumn in 2011.
"It was such a success we decided in January this year to open our own boutique. We moved into the Thor & Wistle premises in March this year and have spent the last few months designing and fitting it out. We wanted the boutique to be a visual experience for our customers, drawing on our inspirations."
Entwistle’s arachnid and ant-inspired collection was debuted at IJL last year, combining Deco-inspired chains with tiny creepy crawlies. Thorsen’s Dynasty brand features delicate charm bracelets and chain necklaces adorned with plexi-glass butterflies, as well as chunkier cuffs.
Thor & Wistle will open on June 13.
