Edinburgh’s Lime Blue robbed of £27k of rings

Thief posing as customer snatches diamond rings from jeweller.

A nifty thief escaped with rings worth £27,000 from Edinburgh jewellery retailer Lime Blue after pretending to be a shopper.

The thief asked the shop assistant to show him a selection of diamond rings in the store on the city’s George Street and quickly snatched them and ran out of the door as sson as they had been brought out of the display cabinet.

The crime took place at about 1.10pm on Thursday afternoon. The man, believed to be in his 20s, made his getaway in a green Vauxhall Omega and is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall with short dark spiky hair and was wearing a dark blue jacket, jeans and white trainers at the time.

A police spokesman said: "We now know the make and model of the getaway vehicle and we are keen to hear from anyone who can help us identify the driver.

"The store has provided us with images of the stolen rings and any businesses or individuals who are offered items matching their description should contact police immediately.”
