Ex Retail Jeweller editor joins CMJ

Sarah Carpin joins buying group as marketing exec.

The Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ) has appointed a marketing and communications executive and a new finance manager to support the buying group’s rapid growth over the past 12 months.

Former Retail Jeweller editor Sarah Carpin has joined the CMJ as marketing and communications executive. Carpin, who is developing her own media and consulting business, said: “The group has experienced an unbelievable rate of growth over the past two years since the appointment of Willie Hamilton and I very much look forward to working with him to further develop this vibrant co-operative and to help grow the businesses of both retail members and approved suppliers in a rapidly changing retail market.”

CMJ chief executive Willie Hamilton said that Sarah will bring to the role “a wealth of jewellery knowledge, extensive journalistic and marketing experience, along with a true level of respect from within the jewellery industry”. He added: “Sarah has recognised the growth and future potential within our group and will now join our vibrant and focused executive team to develop our retail and supplier partnerships even further. The group is moving at an incredible pace and Sarah will add to this momentum.”

Also joining the CMJ team is Russell Lewis who has taken the position of finance manager and will be based at the CMJ’s headquarters in Rugby. Lewis has worked as a management accountant for more than 20 years.

The appointment of Lewis will reduce the group’s external accountancy costs. He will work alongside finance director Dominic Wakefield.

The CMJ has grown its membership by 30 percent over the past year and now has 125 retailer members, representing 205 stores in the UK.
