Trading office opens in London to allow supply chain transparency.
Emerald mining and manufacturing specialists Gemfields has opened a trading office in London to source and supply cut and polished Zambian emeralds to the UK, US and European markets.
The move promises to source stones directly from Gemfields’ distribution partners that have successfully bid and acquired lots at our rough auctions, “guaranteeing a transparent route from mine to market for these fine gems”.
The company carried out large-scale market research in March this year, focused on the UK, US and European markets. The results showed Gemfields that there “[was] a need for additional suppliers of cut and polished Zambian emerald servicing these respective markets”.
Gemfields says that the supply chain issues have often left designers relucantant to use Zambian emeralds, but hopes the new office will help facilitate supplies, ensuring a consistent supply of fine and commercial emeralds to the market.
The trading office will be operated out of Gemfields’ head office in Jermyn Street and the London Diamond bourse, located on Hatton Garden.
