Gemologist Flavie Isatelle to give emerald talk

Istaelle to give free presentation at GIA Gemstone Gathering.

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Thailand’s 40th Gemstone Gathering will focus on the history, mining and production of Colombia’s legendary bright green emeralds.

The event in Bangkok on November 24, entitled Green Fever – A Colombian Adventure, will feature guest speaker Flavie Isatelle, an accredited gemologist and expert in the management of natural and mineral resources.

Isatelle’s presentation will take attendees on a virtual journey through the Colombian mines of Muzo, La Pita, Coscuez and Peñas Blancas. She will discuss Colombian emerald formations and regional geology, along with mining, recovery and production techniques. She will also review recent studies on material gathered from Colombia’s Muzo, Chivor and Coscuez mines using UV-VIS spectrophotometry and LA-ICP-MS chemical analysis systems.

GIA Thailand’s 40th Gemstone Gathering is a free event that will begin at 6 pm on November 24 in the Pacific Room 1-3 on the 21st floor of the Pan Pacific Bangkok Hotel.
