Simon Forrester was announced as the National Association of Jeweller’s new chief executive officer in October last year, and officially began the role on January 22, 2018.
With over 22 years’ experience in strategic-level association management and a track record of delivering increased member benefits, training courses, governance reviews, best practice and a substantial code of conduct linked to purchaser confidence, Forrester brings a wealth of experience to the post.
Forrester has spent his first 100 days in the role getting to know the industry, meeting members, and finding out from trade professionals how the NAJ can help move the industry forward.
Sitting down with Professional Jeweller for his first interview in the new role, we decided to not only find out his plans for the Association, but to get to know a bit more about the man in charge…

Favourite sport? I don’t have a favourite sport because I don’t have time to play. Probably my favourite sport at the moment is chasing around after my children.
What football team do you support? Stoke City. I am going for the underdog. I am sticking with them through bad and worse.
What do you do to relax? I am into PlayStation games – so I shoot things to relax – virtually.
Favourite holiday location? North Wales. We go every year.
Three people for dinner, dead or alive, who would it be? Arthur Conan Doyle, who is the author of the Sherlock Holmes books, George Best, and probably someone like Stephen Fry.
Best advice you have ever received? Always park in the shade.
