Low-cost option offered on diamonds of .20ct and under.

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced that it will offer lower-cost diamond grading in response to rising industry concerns about the number of undisclosed synthetic diamonds now on the market.

The GIA says it will provide a new low-cost identification for diamonds of .20ct and under which will detect synthetic stones as well as any permanent colour treatments for natural stones.

In addition, GIA has reduced the cost for Diamond Dossier grading reports for stones of 0.29ct and below by 10%. The new and lower-cost services will be available from July 1.
