Go behind the scenes at Birmingham Assay Office

BAO to open private silver collection to the public for just a day.

The Birmingham Assay Office has revealed that it is to open its doors to the public for one day only, allowing the hoi polloi to get a sneak peek at its silver collection.

Typically visits to its silver collection are only available to pre-booked groups, so the Assay Office has said this is a “unique opportunity”. Visitors will be able to see the silver collection, the library, and to hear about the history of hallmarking and the Birmingham Assay Office.

Welcome coffee and biscuits will be served both before the visit and afterwards.

The open day will take place on December 6, with doors open from 11am, with a second visit at 2pm. There are a limited 25 places at £10 per head for the morning and afternoon visits, so booking via the Birmingham Assay Office is advised.

The Assay Office opened its doors for a similar event earlier this year.
