Gold & Time newspaper editor dies aged 55

Spanish trade paper mourns loss of editor Jose ‘Pepe’ Arquero Hidalgo.

Jose Pepe Arquero Hidalgo, the long-time editor of Spanish gem and jewellery trade paper Gold & Time passed away yesterday, October 6, in Madrid, Spain.

Arquero, who was known by many as ‘Pepe’ suffered a brain haemorrhage as he left the office on Wednesday evening.

A close friend said of his passing: "Pepe was an icon in the Spanish gem and jewellery community and known by all as a kind and affable man. His, knowledge, insights and mostly his warm, outgoing personality and friendship will be greatly missed.”

Tributes have poured in for Arquero on his Facebook page. He is survived by his wife Teresa and two sons, Joseph and Martha. He had enjoyed a long career as a journalist, winning the American Award for Specialized Journalism.

Arquero was chairman of committee of the Spanish Chapter International Association of Specialized and Technical Journalism (AIPET). He ran the Gold & Time newspaper and magazines and Nexotime and Goldtime digital versions of the paper, which appeared in September under his direction.

The Nexus Group, publishers of Gold & Time, is drafting a special edition of the paper dedicated to Arquero.
