Gold bars and coins dispensed linked to real-time gold price.

Abu Dhabi has become the first location outside of Germany to boast a vending machine that serves up gold.

The Gold to Go dispenser in the city’s five-star Emirates Palace Hotel vends 1g, 5g and 10g bars of 24ct gold as well as decorative stamped 24ct gold coins in presentation boxes.

The machine has been fitted with a computer that links in with the real-time gold price ensuring that consumers using the dispenser will always pay the correct price per gram for gold.

The vending machine has been developed by TG Gold-Super-Markt, a brand of Ex Orient Lux, and has been tested at locations around the world before its Abu Dhabi launch.

In a statement, the group said: “It is expected that in this domain of the rich and the beautiful, Gold to Go will be perceived as an extra special gift idea, combining the joy of giving with an investment in a precious metal. Physical gold is, after all, still one of the most sustainable forms of investment.”

Emirates Palace Hotel general manager Hans Olbertz said: “We seized upon this idea and, as one of the most exclusive hotels in the world, we wanted the Emirates Palace to play a pioneering role and be the first hotel in the world to offer its guests this golden service.”
