The Goldsmiths’ Company has announced its new prime warden as Michael Wainwright, managing director of luxury jewellery retailer Boodles.
Wainwright was appointed yesterday (May 18) during the annual prime warden’s changeover service held at St Vedast.
The Goldsmiths’ Company continues to play a central role in the UK goldsmithing, silversmithing and jewellery trade. Like the company, Boodles draws on its rich heritage while maintaining a forward-looking approach.
Wainwright describes himself as “passionately commercial” and believes in getting the best out of the market. As Prime Warden, Wainwright will aim to help the Goldsmiths’ Company build on its efforts to improve the business and leadership skills of jewellers and silversmiths, enabling those who wish to grow to fulfil their potential.
Wainwright began working in the Liverpool branch of Boodles at 15-years-old during his holidays but officially joined the family business in in 1984.
As a successful businessman with a social conscience, Wainwright is also a fundraising trustee for the Rainbow Trust, a charity offering care and support to families of terminally ill children. He also provides enterprise mentorship at the Cranfield School of Business.
