Hallmarking up 9.4% in July as silver soars

Hallmarking figures compiled by Assay Office Birmingham for Jul 2017 show a positive month overall, despite all metals apart from silver suffering a dip.

In total, July saw a 9.4% increase in the total number of items assayed compared to the same period in 2016, with a total of 752,229 pieces being handled in the month.

Silver was the only category to report a hike in hallmarking, with the precious metal citing a 32.2% increase. Meanwhile, gold dipped by 10.2%, platinum fell by 11.6% and palladium cited a 23.2% drop.
