Hallmarking down 12.4% in August as gold and silver take hits

Hallmarking figures compiled by Assay Office Birmingham for August 2015 show a reduction in the overall hallmarking number compared to the same period in 2014.

The total number of pieces hallmarked across all four UK Assay Offices was down 12.4%.

Gold articles hallmarked were down 8.5% whilst silver was down 17.0%, both mirroring a very similar position in the month of July. However Platinum articles were up 3.1% and Palladium up 14.9%.

    The hallmarking figures are always interesting and useful.
    However, would it be possible to include the total “weight” of the alloys listed. This would help to evaluate the total value of the market.
