Hallmarking up in February as silver soars

Hallmarking figures compiled by Assay Office Birmingham for February 2018 show a positive month overall, as all metals apart from platinum report a rise.

In total, February saw a 19.4% increase in the total number of items assayed compared to the same period in 2017, with a total of 688,220 pieces being handled in the month.

Silver posted the greatest hike, with the precious metal citing a 29.7% increase. Meanwhile, gold and palladium soared by 11.9% and 3.5% respectively, while platinum dipped by 3.3%.
