Hallmarking up 10% in August as gold, platinum and palladium soar

Hallmarking figures compiled by Assay Office Birmingham for August 2016 show a positive month, citing an overall increase of  10.4% in the total number of items assayed compared with the same period in 2015.

A total of 768,428 pieces were handled by the Assay Offices, compared to 696,251 last year.

Gold, platinum and palladium all saw in increase in the total number of items hallmarked in August, reporting 24.1% increase for Gold, 18.9% for platinum and 0.8% for palladium. Silver was the only metal to suffer a decrease, with a dip of 2.7% overall.
