After 40 years in business The Jewellers in Borough Green will be closing next week after the current lease finishes.

The Jewellers, previously known as J.C. Gourbould, in Station Road has had to close because the landlord is taking back the lease.

The store owner, Rachel Payne, told the Courier: “We definitely would have stayed if could, because we’re established and have been doing really well. We have a good little business.”

Payne has worked at the shop for almost 25 years, and took it over after the previous owner, John Gourbould, died.

The family-run business prides itself on stocking unique items of jewellery that differ from the mainstream options found along the high street. The Jewellers also offered jewellery valuations, repairs, alteration and remodelling service.

Most of the stock has already been run down following a 30% discount sale.

Payne, who provides bespoke jewellery items for The Jewellers, now plans to work from home as retail premises at the moment are too expensive.

The store will be closing next week but Payne is encouraging customer to continue to come to her for commissions.
