Ceremony at Gibson Hall toasts 15th anniversary and top students.
Holts Academy last night hosted its second Academy Awards, celebrating the achievements of its students, graduates and tutors, while raising a glass to its 15th anniversary.
The Hatton Garden-based educational centre, which specialises in jewellery education, CAD training and jewellery apprenticeships, awarded 11 prizes at last night’s event at Gibson Hall, London.
Holts Academy founder Jason Holt and the Academy’s principal Lee Lucas spoke about the achievements of Holts Academy over the past 15 years since it was founded, including the influence it has had in improving employment figures in the jewellery sector, alongside getting young people into professional roles through industry apprenticeships.
The evening also featured keynote speaker Nick Boles MP Minister for Skills and Equality, who discussed how Holts Academy is helping to drive forward jewellery skills and manufacturing in Britain and is putting British-made products back on the global map.
Lucas was also presented a surprise award of his own and a pair of Sarah Herriot cufflinks as a thank you for his work over the past seven-and-a-half years, following the announcement that he will be leaving Holts Academy today, to begin a principal role with the Fashion Retail Academy.
The annual Holts Academy Awards won support from several businesses this year, including headline partner Brown & Newirth, GVUK, Cookson Gold, The Goldsmiths’ Company and SQA.
