Three. It’s been dubbed the magic number and, for Robinson Pelham, the power of three has carried the business through an exciting period of growth and international expansion.
The West London luxury jeweller is headed up by a trio of directors – Zoe Benyon, Vanessa Chilton and Kate Pelham Burn. It offers three core collections and it describes its approach to work as “creative, methodical and attentive”.
Indeed, this methodical approach to business included the opening of a standalone store in the sophisticated Chelsea area of London, capturing a solid, local customer base, followed in the past 12 months by a strategic move into the Japanese and Middle Eastern markets. “The past year has really seen the brand connect with the Japanese fine jewellery market, and that’s been apparent in the orders we are taking,” Vanessa reveals. “Moving Robinson Pelham beyond British borders has been a significant milestone for us, and one that we are proud of.”
The brand also took part in the Qatar UK Fashion Exchange in 2014, sitting alongside leading British talents such as Nicholas Kirkwood and Emilia Wickstead. This event has fuelled a hunger in the trio for developing the brand further in the Middle East in the coming years.
Despite having an eye trained steadily on international opportunities, Robinson Pelham has been shrewd enough to remain just as close to its established clients, in particular those for whom it creates exciting, gem-fuelled bespoke pieces. Zoe concedes: “Expanding our business without compromising our values or brand identity has been demanding. We have developed close relationships with some of our customers over the years and it’s extremely important to us that they aren’t pushed to one side. While our classic products and bespoke services are well known and recognised in the jewellery industry, equally our vision of the future includes establishing the same credibility for, and awareness of, our contemporary collections.”
Alongside plans for a brand new website – designed to expand and generate awareness in overseas markets – the focus next is on creating three facets to the Robinson Pelham brand. Enter the aforementioned core collections: Couture, Contemporary and Classic. The three Cs, as one could describe them, will be launched off cially in sync with the new site in 2015.
After almost 20 years working together, Vanessa, Zoe and Kate have found their niche both as a brand and individually, working under the Robinson Pelham name. When asked what tip she would offer someone seeking to stamp their own mark on the jewellery industry, Kate says: “Acquire as much experience and knowledge of the jewellery industry as possible. There are so many roles within the field – designer, mounter, diamond dealer. Find your niche and become an expert.”
