Being given overall responsibility for manufacturing at WB The Creative Jewellery Group may sound like a daunting task, but it’s something that Claire Miller has taken in her stride.
After 18 years working in various roles across the Group, Claire was promoted to manufacturing manager, overseeing all the casting, spruing, mould-cutting, mounting, setting and polishing activities on a daily basis.
This is made all the more impressive considering Claire does not have a background in engineering or jewellery technology. Instead, she has invested time, effort and patience into learning all the complex production processes, while drawing on her natural aptitudes for methodical thinking and organisation to ensure workshops run smoothly.
Since her promotion lead times for in-house manufacturing have halved and she is now turning her attention to reducing lead times for other products by reviewing methods and work flows. According to her colleagues, Claire has successfully created an environment that encourages and develops team work and the motivation of those she supervises — a sure fire way to find yourself in the Professional Jeweller Hot 100.
When she’s not working Claire enjoys spending time with her son and reading a good book in her garden.
