Connie Nam has had a lot to smile about over the past year as her jewellery brand Astrid & Miyu cited a 170% increase in sales during its Q1 2015 results. Its website growth has also been phenomenal, with a 200% boost over the last 12 months.
Despite this, Connie admits her biggest achievement has been securing investment from reputable angel investors to grow the company. She says: “I’ve been running the business for about four years with no external capital. This funding will enable Astrid & Miyu to expand further in becoming a leading jewellery brand.”
Connie’s vision is to become the go-to brand for fashion jewellery. “In order to achieve this, I not only need to have the right collection
offering and branding, but also the right fi nancial backing to fuel growth,” she explains. “The money as well as the experience and
network the investors bring are expected to take the brand to the next level.”
Connie has also focused her attention on her brand’s web presence, looking at social media, emails, advertisement and PR.
She explains: “With strong PR and social media teams behind us we are able to reach our target customers effectively. Speaking to Instagram users and collaborating with bloggers has been particularly successful in brand building.”
Talking about the future Connie says: “We’ve realised the importance of engaging directly with our customers, so we are planning on
opening a fl agship store where we can interact face-to-face with our fans and customers.”
In her down time Connie turns to yoga to stay fi t and release stress. She also enjoys cooking and turning her hand to recipes
by the likes of Nigel Slater and Bill Granger. It is her friends and family who are her rock though.
She smiles: “Having a stable life with a supportive group of family and friends is crucial in running a successful business. They are also
some of my best customers!”
