The fine jewellery department at Harrods has been the fastest growing part of the business annually for the last three years running and all the metrics point to 2016 exceeding all that’s gone before it.
So it’s fair to say that Helen David has been an extremely busy woman since being promoted to chief merchant at the beginning of the year.
In order to continue improving the department, Helen has been involved in the refurbishment of the central area within the Fine Jewellery Room, elevating the environment in line with that of the surrounding boutiques.
“We have seen a significant increase in high jewellery, large stone sales and bespoke orders across the department in recent years, so have included private VIP salons to facilitate these conversations within the counters, as well as a bespoke lighting concept to showcase our brands’ jewellery collections in their most sparkling light,” she explains.
“Harrods prides itself on consistently offering the highest level of customer service; the inclusion of these private spaces, even within each central counter space, was paramount in achieving this, and allows us to offer a more personal retail experience to our clients shopping with all of our brands, including those not located within a boutique environment.”
The iconic Knightsbridge store is always evolving with its customers’ needs and while Helen remains fiercely proud of the successes her team has made across the store to date, the over-riding goal is to raise the bar even higher.
“My new role offers me the opportunity to develop a strategy across the entire fashion division, including fine jewellery and watches, with a fully integrated approach across brands and divisions – the next 12 months are certainly going to be busy, but I am very much looking forward to the journey!” she says.
