Recounting a year of dramatic growth, winning twice as many stockists.

As we look forward to the reveal of the Professional Jeweller Hot 100 2013 on September 3 we hear from 2012’s NexGems about being part of the Hot 100, what it means for business and what’s next for the jewellery brands. Jessica Flinn fills us in a year of dramatic growth, award wins and new launches.

Professional Jeweller: You were named a Professional Jeweller Hot 100 NexGem in 2012 – what did this mean for your business?
Jessica Flinn: It was enormous accolade both for myself and for the business. It got my name out to so many retailers who may never have heard of me before, giving me some fantastic potential new openings. Equally importantly though, it helped me to strengthen my relationship with my existing clients too – and it’s very flattering to know that people think you’re worth noticing.

PJ: Tell us about the year since the Hot 100 – how has business evolved?

JF: We have grown dramatically in the past 12 months, taking on more full time staff, including a business development and sales executive, and increasing our network of independent stockists by 100%. I think we now also have a stronger and clearer image, with new websites for both Jessica Flinn Designs and my new Green and Lister brand and some exciting new marketing campaigns too. The Silveramics collection from Jessica Flinn Designs is growing even better than previous collections and some strong media interest has helped promote all areas of the business very successfully. In addition I received the Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Award and was nominated for the BJA Designer of the Year Award.

PJ: What can we expect next from the brand?
JF
: Having successfully established Jessica Flinn Designs and sister brand Little Flinn, I am now in the process of launching Green and Lister, a sophisticated new brand that provides a real contrast to my other work and which is already generating a lot of extremely positive interest. I am currently growing our independent shop platforms and also introducing some exiting new POS into shops, giving all of my brands a stronger, clearer identity. I am also currently negotiating some important, large contracts that I really can’t say too much about at the moment. Needless to say, though, they will make a major impact on my plans for future development.
