Desiree Pringle, creative director, Gecko

It’s proving to be a busy year at Gecko, as the brand is not only celebrating its 25-year anniversary – it’s also launching three new collections under the creative expertise of Desiree Pringle.

“Seeing the Orla Kiely Charm fashion jewellery collection through to a successful launch in March is definitely my greatest business achievement so far this year,” she says.

“This collection has given us the opportunity to work with a very well-respected, high-end brand, which has added further kudos to our portfolio. It has also allowed us to broaden our remit; we’ve been able to demonstrate to our customers that we have the ability to produce fashion jewellery for the premium end of the market, where previously we didn’t have a presence.”

Also new for 2016 are the 9-carat Fiorelli Gold collection, created in-house with modern designs and colourful semi-precious stones, which was revealed at the NEC in February, and a sterling silver Orla Kiely Charm collection set to launch at IJL.

“As with the fashion range, we have worked incredibly closely with Orla on every piece for the silver collection – it’s a true labour of love for all involved,” she enthuses.

Above all, though, Desiree has demonstrated the many strings to her bow since leaving her previous role as a buyer to become Gecko’s creative director, and she feels proud to have successfully risen to the challenge of managing a design and marketing team for the first time. “I have absolutely loved the past year and I truly believe I have the best team I could ask for.”
