Last year, Siobhan Maher became senior designer for Domino’s New Product Development team, taking responsibility for the company’s core brochures and products.
At a business so focused on innovation, this role is no small task. “It’s been a new and hugely enjoyable challenge,” she says. “I’ve spent this year bringing to market product that I’m really proud of, exploring and developing new ideas, and spending time with our inspiring customer base.”
Indeed, Domino’s new Sienna brochure, launched this summer, was dominated by brand new designs, including original concepts and trend-led pieces. “The range has received some of our best feedback yet, which is testament to the emphasis the company places on British designed and made product.
The work we do in New Product Development is an important part of the ‘created and crafted’ heritage we’re so proud of,” Siobhan explains. There has also been a particular focus on storytelling, and Siobhan and her team work closely with the marketing department to ensure the inspiration behind the company’s designs is passed on to consumers.
“Sharing the secrets of our design studio has really captured the imaginations of our customers, who in many cases had little idea about the huge amount of research and design development that goes into creating original product ideas.”
Much of Siobhan’s own design inspiration is drawn from her travels around the world, and the photos, sketches, literature and curios that accompany her when she returns home. “I already have a pipeline of new designs and ideas that I’m excited about bringing to fruition over the next year!” she grins.
