GREAT Week event to help boost brand’s international recognition.

London-based jewellery brand iKuria is set to showcase its collections as part of UK Trade & Investment’s GREAT Week campaign in Japan.

The silver and fine jewellery brand, founded by Japanese designer Ikuko Kurahone, hopes to build international recognition, boost exports and build long-term commercial ties with businesses in Japan through the initiative. iKuria presently sells to private clients in Japan and via one online Japanese retailer, and plans to build on this foundation.

Kurahone said of the GREAT Weeks campaign: "I am very pleased that I can introduce my jewels to my home country at such a high-profile fashion and luxury event. I have decided to enter the Japanese market after becoming the first ever Japanese finalist for the UK Jewellery Awards’ New Designer of the Year category earlier this year. Without this experience, I would have postponed entrance onto the Japanese market until much later."

Kurahone described entering the Japanese market as "a big test and challenge" owing to the keen eye of Japanese consumers and jewellery buyers. "The market is extremely consolidated but now I am confident that the Japanese will love the quality, design and wearability of my jewels. I am also very thankful to the UKTI for their support,” she added.

Kurahone plans to introduce her fine Laika collection and part of her new SS14 Chronicle collection during the event.

The highlight of the government-backed multi-disciplinary event is Fashion Showcase, an event in which hundreds of Japanese buyers are invited to visit a showcase of UK-based jewellery and fashion talents.
