The Houlden Group’s summer exhibition proved positive for members.

The Houlden Group has received positive industry feedback for its annual summer getaway event at the East Sussex National Golf Resort in June.

The networking and social event welcomed 130 Houlden members, guests and suppliers over three –days, with a full schedule of activities and a Great Gatsby themed party.

Houlden Group chief executive officer Stuart Laing kicked off the Members Day morning with a business update, posing the question ‘Should Houlden go Consumer Facing?’ Following this was a walkthrough of the unique One Click Marketing System which has been created specifically for Houlden members.

DM London chairman David Coleridge updated members on the Houlden and Watch Gallery Click and Collect collaboration, which sees improvements to the Watch Gallery Website and an expansion to include more Houlden stores.

Keynote speaker Philip Hesketh educated and entertained members with a thought-provoking and humorous approach to Passport to Success, while on a lighter side, Sam Willoughby followed her invitation to the new IJL venue Olympia with a quiz on the history of IJL. This was won by Joe Walsh, managing director of Laings Glasgow.

The two-day day supplier exhibition allowed members a convenient location in which to meet with group suppliers. 67 exhibitors, 15 of which are new to the Group this year, offered a range of jewellery from high-end 18ct gold and gemstones, through to designer silver and fashion jewellery.

Richard Hartmann of A. Hartmann & Son said: "The Houlden summer getaway was a fantastic environment to get prepared for the Christmas season. All of our key suppliers were exhibiting which meant a tremendous saving in time and an opportunity to review our offer. There were also a number of new suppliers so we could ensure that we covered new looks too. Together with the freedom to reconnect with other independent jewellers who often face similar challenges and opportunities, this made the few days away from the shop an unmissable event."

Jim Hunter of WB Gatward said: "As always the Houlden Members’ Day was full of interesting topics and much to be gained from attending. The speakers were entertaining and we picked up on many good points. The social side was brilliant, we attended 2 evening events, and it was great to see people getting into the spirit of the Gatsby Evening. We know that Helen and her team from Houlden will create a great night. All in all an excellent 3 days."

The Houlden Group connects leading independent fine jewellers, with its next meeting point at IJL in London in August.
