Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair expects record Israeli presence.

The Israeli diamond industry will have a record presence at the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair this year.

The Israel Diamond Pavilion, organised by the Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI), will play host to 71 companies, 11 of which will be exhibiting for the first time. An additional 20 Israeli companies will also be exhibiting in various locations throughout the show.

According to IDI, the unprecedented participation of Israeli companies in the September fair is due to the enormous importance the industry places on Asia, with Hong Kong at its centre. Hong Kong is Israel’s second largest market for polished diamonds and represented 26 percent of the country’s total polished diamond exports in 2009.

IDI chairman Moti Ganz claimed he was pleased with the ‘extraordinary’ Israeli participation in the event.

He said: “Hong Kong, as the gateway to the Far East, has always been a major focus for the Israeli Diamond Industry. We have developed excellent, long-standing relations with companies there and in other parts of Asia. Now more than ever we see these markets as the direction of the future for Israeli diamond companies, and we are actively supporting the industry in their efforts there.”

Ganz added that he was very optimistic about the medium and long term prospects for Asian markets.

“China and India are acting as growth vehicles for the Israeli Diamond Industry,” he said, “and we haven’t yet begun to explore the full potential of those two giants.”

The Honk Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair will take place from September 14-20.
