Emerging designer wins free Design Gallery stand at 2014 show.
Emerging jewellery design talent Jenny Llewellyn has scooped the first ever IJL KickStart People’s Choice award, winning a free stand in the IJL Design Gallery at the 2014 show.
The People’s Choice award is a new element for the KickStart initiative in 2013. The 10 KickStart designers went head-to-head to win a stand at the 2014 show, accumulating public votes through social media, the IJL website and Professionaljeweller.com.
The KickStart designers launched individual campaigns to drum up votes by tweeting, emailing and using Facebook and Instagram to win votes. In total the People’s Choice competition bought in more than 7,000 votes, with Llewellyn, an east London-based jewellery designer and maker, achieving the highest number.
Llewellyn works with silicone and precious metals to create pieces inspired by the luminous colours, shapes and movement of deep sea creatures. She will use her appearance as part of the KickStart line up to launch a new, all-black collection called Chromophobia.
She said of her win: “Having the chance to exhibit at the prestigious IJL feels like the next step for me in terms of gaining more clients internationally and regionally. This is a great progression for my business and I look forward to what it might bring."
Now in its fifth year, the KickStart initiative acts as a conduit for retailers and buyers to discover new designers as they launch. The bursary scheme is run by International Jewellery London and supported by the British Jewellers’ Association, and the winning designers are selected as talent of the future.
The full line up for KickStart 2013 is: Kattri, Anna Byers Jewellery, Annabelle Lucilla Jewellery, Catherine Budd Jewellery, Chistiana Christoforou, Jenny Llewellyn, Katie Jamieson, Phoebe Jewellery, Rosie Sanders and Sara Gunn.
