Hilary Alexander matches Fashion Week themes to jewellery trends.
A jewellery runway show inspired by Hilary Alexander’s autumn/winter trends report drew the biggest crowd of the day yesterday.
The Daily Telegraph’s fashion director curated the show based on the styles she saw at this season’s fashion weeks in New York, London, Paris and Milan; with jewellery matched to the trends she identified.
Farah Qureshi picked up Alexander’s Heads First trend, which predicts headwear will be big this year. The designer’s nature-inspired tiara fitted the trend perfectly.
Sticking Your Neck Out is a theme that saw fashion labels embellishing necklines with statement necklaces and complex bows. The jewellery business has run with the style, particularly Mark Milton’s dramatic monochrome creation in crystal.
The Wild Side was encapsulated with Snarling panthers at Givenchy, a snakepit of serpentry at Chloé, and a jungle packed with animals at Roberto Cavalli. At IJL, it was picked up by Jules Jules, who presented a suite of lacquer jewellery in jungle and animal themes.
The catwalk shows run twice per day, with models walking the entire length of The Boulevard. They then interact with the audience, first from plinths carrying the name of the jewellery that is being worn, and then in a free walk around that allows visitors to touch the pieces.
